I’ve been looking for some drinks I enjoyed while in Japan recently and after checking every Japanese market in the area I was finally able to find it here. Store is clean and well organized, staff is friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Look forward to shopping here more in the future for other Japanese items I’ve been missing.

I saw Jessica Chastain on the uptown 3 train on November 9, 2024. She was in possession of this grocery store's tote bag, so I had to visit at some point! I only got this black coffee in a bottle because I'd just had lunch, & I didn't want a beer. This beverage energized me through a couple of hours of outdoor work!

Great selection of Japanese items. We even found Pretz flavors we never saw in Japan. There is more than just food available. A variety of toiletries, kitchen utensils, and cookware is also for sale. It's really worth your time if you're missing something or other from your time in Japan. Highly recommended!

Adorable! A well-stocked Japanese grocery store and more! I went in for food but came out with a nice selection of housewares and stationery, too. I was so happy to find yuzu mochi and my favorite Japanese chocolates. The staff members were super nice, too.

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would have. The staff is extremely friendly and quick with helping me out. There's a huge selection of food, snacks but also cosmetics and household products. Basically, Yamadaya is a Japanese supermarket in the middle of NYC. I think 90% of the things in my house comes from this place. I just love how high-quality the products that I bought here are and that's why I go every week.

They also take good care of the store. All of the products are nicely displayed on the shelves. It really shows how much they care. Best Japanese store in the city. Highly recommended!

On my recent visit to NYC, I was so enchanted by this store that I went three times. I could have bought a lot of stuff, but I didn't really need anything. The prices were better than the mega Japanese store Mitsuwa or other Asian stores I frequent in Chicago. I ended up only buying a food-shaped eraser for my daughter and a few Mochis. The young woman working at the front counter was super nice. This shop is a wonderful addition to the West Village!

This was my favorite Japanese market in the village but honestly their customer service has left me with questions unanswered more than once. Upon asking about their products, like teas, they often aren’t able to really provide information. On top of that they do not accept exchanges for items that taste spoiled. I’ve spent a lot of money there over the last few years and am really surprised they offer no satisfaction guarantee.

Also I’ve always thought the wall of pictures of people who have shoplifted there is creepy and unnecessarily intimidating to people who shop there. There are many other Japanese markets in NYC, I’d start with any of the others first – I recommend Katagiri & Sunrise.
